- She was from Washington, DC. He volunteered at the beginning of the War of the Rebellion as Sergeant-Major in the Fifth Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged from the volunteer service, June 25, 1861, and on the same day was commissioned First Lieutenant in the 12th US Infantry, having received the appointment May 14, 1861; was brevetted Captain for gallant and meritorious service at the Battle of Chancellorsville, May 3, 1863, and commissioned Captain, Dec. 31, 1863; was brevetted Major, March 3, 1865, for gallant and meritorious service in the field during the war. He continued in the regular army as Captain in the 12th US Infantry till his retirement, March 10, 1879. (Parker)
