  • Notes
    • He was a wealthy farmer at Plympton, in that portion of the town later called Carver. He received a considerable estate from his grandfather, which was increased by his thrift and management, and by his share of his father's considerable property. On the records of the town his name is written both Doten and Dotin, while his wife's name, now generally called Whiting, is there written as Whitin and Whitton. April 27, 1766, Elisha Whitton of Plympton, was appointed administrator of the estate of Edward Doten, late of Plympton, yeoman. Samuel Lucas, Rowland Hammond and Zebedee Chandler were appointed to make an inventory. They set off one-third to Joannah Doty, his widow. Debts were found due the widow, Lidiah Doten, Ebenezer Doten, and others. The dates of the births of the children are given here as they stand on the old town record at Plympton, MA. It differs slightly from records furnished by members of the family, but the difference of eleven days between the old and new style of reckoning will account for the most of this. b. Plympton, MA - (Doty)
