On 2 June, 1821, Ellis (Ball) Doty deeded land to John Doty referring "to my son John, Caroline, Co. of Tioga, NY". All John and Polly's children appear to have been born in Caroline, NY. As per 1825 census records, he was a farmer by trade. Pay vouchers indicate John's 1812 War service was from Sept. 13, 1813 to Dec. 8, 1813, serving at Fort George. All the sons of this family migrated west. William Roe to Minnesota, Elisha Thompson to Illinois, where he was possibly killed by Indians, John Finch to Michigan, Robert to Minnesota for a year and then to Bureau Co., IL for the remainder of his life, and Isaac moved to Carroll Co., MO. James Richmond Doty died at age 18 in Caroline, IL. John and Polly lived at Caroline, NY. (Doty)
