He was educated in the district school and attended Mt. Blanchard high school. He was a teacher in the schools of Hancock county for several years, until his health failed and he was compelled to give up teaching. He took up farming, and owned 80 acres of his father's farm in Jackson township. He farmed until he became too old to handle it, and moved to Houcktown to retire. On August 29, 1928, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. (Doty)
