  He attended Mifflintown School, Conway Hall at Carlisle, PA, and the Univ. of Pittsburg, Gettysburg and Jefferson Medical School. Due to ill health, he had to give up the idea of being a doctor and came back home and served as a clerk in the 1st National Bank until January, 1939, when he became cashier, a position he held in 1939. He was a Presbyterian, and a Democrat, a member of the F&AM 324, Harrisburg Consistery and Zerubo Shrine. He was active in all community organizations.
