  • Notes
    • He died at 76 years of age. (He was the son of Pilgrim Myles Standish by his second wife Barbara). He married, first, Sarah Alden, dau. of Pilgrim John Alden, by whom he had Lora, Lydia, Elizabeth, Mercy, Myles, Sarah, Ebenezer and David. The will of Alexander Standish dated 21 Feb 1701/2 with a codicil dated 5 Jul 1702, probated 10 Aug 1702, names all his living children including Thomas, Desire and Ichabod, his childred by Desire (MD 12:99-103). His inventory was taken 23 Jul 1702 (MD 12:103-4). The husbands of the daughters of Alexander Standish, by his first wife Sarah Alden, protested the will 10 Aug 1702 in which they state he was about 76 years of age and not of a disposing mind and that he had by his first wife, who was a daughter of Mr. John Alden, two sons and 5 daughters and after her decease he lived a widower many years. About 16 years before he died he married a second wife and by her had two sons and a daughter. The judge ruled the will was valid (MD 12:108). However, the fight over the estate continued until 1703 (see MD 12:176-185 for an account of the struggle). The will of Desire Standish late of Duxborough, now of Marshfield, widow of Mr. Alexander Standish, late of Duxborough dated 30 Jul 1723, proved 17 May 1732, names eldest son William Sherman; five sons Ebenezer Sherman, Israel Holmes, John Holmes, Thomas Standish and Ichabod Standish; three daughters Hannah Ring, Experience Standish and Desire Weston; granddaughter Desire Wormwall (MD 12:48-51). Her inventory was taken 6 May 1732 (MD 12:51-2). b. Marshfield (VR p. 38) - (Standish)
